In the most unpleasant of posts, a day after Disney gave us awesome news that there would be Annual Passholder previews for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, prior to it’s opening on August 29th, they then decided to raise the prices of those same Annual Passes.

And raise them they did.

Whoa.

Premier Passports (allowing you admittance into both Walt Disney World and Disneyland) went from $1,949 to a new price of $2,099

Platinum Plus Annual Pass – (allows admittance into Walt Disney World, both water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Disney’s Oak Trail Golf) for Florida Residents and DVC members went from $849 to $999.  For non-Florida residents, it was $994, and now it’s $1,219

Platinum Annual Pass (gets you into all four theme parks at WDW, no blockout dates) for DVC Members and Florida Residents went from $749 to $899, and for non-Florida residents, it went from the price of $894 up to $1,119

Gold Annual Pass (for FL Residents and DVC only) increased from $609 to $999

The Water Park Annual Pass was $130, and is now $139

Various Florida Resident Only pass prices also went up to the following prices:

  • Silver Pass – $529
  • Theme Park Select Pass – $439
  • Weekday Select Pass – $349
  • Epcot After 4 Pass – $309
  • Water Park After 2 Pass – $89

Why do this increase? One can only guess is to stem the purchase of annual passes, which were already pricey. Disneyland has had to shoot their prices way, way up for APs in order to quell the number of Annual Passholders, which were way more than they anticipated. It seems as if WDW is following suit.  Of course, making more money is always on the table for the Disney company.

On a personal note, I think this is absolutely crazy, and wish they had announced this price increase, and THEN announced the Star Wars preview a few days later. It still would garner huge negative responses, but it would look like Disney would be adding a benefit, instead of punishing those wishing to get an AP!
